How to grow

From seed to harvest in four simple steps

1

Prepare the soil

Loosen well-drained soil and mix in a handful of compost or organic manure. Smooth the bed and remove any large clods.

2

Sow the seeds

Plant the seeds about 1 cm deep, spaced evenly. Lightly cover with soil — no need to bury too deep.

3

Water gently

Water with a fine spray immediately. Keep the soil consistently moist (not soaked) until the seedlings emerge.

4

Watch them grow

In 7–14 days you'll see the first sprouts. Thin out crowded seedlings and feed lightly every 2–3 weeks.

About F1 Ridge Gourd Nidhi-101 Seeds

Ridge Gourd, known as Turai or Gilki across India, is a staple in Indian kitchens and one of the easiest gourds to grow at home. The Nidhi-101 F1 hybrid is a vigorous climbing variety that produces tender, ribbed gourds with consistent yield and good disease resistance. Perfect for terraces and large balconies with trellis support.

Health Benefits of Ridge Gourd

  • Low in Calories: An excellent vegetable for weight management with very low fat content.
  • Rich in Fibre: Supports healthy digestion and prevents constipation.
  • Good for Skin: High water content and vitamins keep skin hydrated and healthy.
  • Supports Liver Health: Traditionally used in Ayurveda to support liver function and detoxification.

How to Grow Ridge Gourd at Home

Sow seeds 1 inch deep in well-drained soil or cocopeat mix. Set up a strong trellis before sowing. Water daily and ensure 6+ hours of direct sunlight. Harvest when gourds are 20-25 cm long and still tender. Ready in 50-60 days from sowing.

When to Sow Ridge Gourd Seeds

Best sown February to April across most of India. Avoid peak monsoon sowing as excess moisture encourages fungal disease. In South India, October to November works well for a winter crop.
